Tuesday 4 May
After a walk around the lake and breakfast at the hotel we left at 10.30 on what we thought was about a 6 hour drive to Munich. Bit of a Griswalds trip. The new GPS fired up but we started it in German and could not figure out how to get it back to English so had a tough time working out our links from our rechts. The map worked until there was a road closure then we ended up in the bush somewhere. Stopped in a village but no people and no shops. Backtracked, asked the guards at a US base for some directions and finally in the town of Landstul a book shop owner got the GPS on to English and we were off again. Lunch in Kronau, then on the autobahn in the rain towards Munich, getting late. Then the new GPS just died so we were stuck in a service station, calling Helena and feeling a bit helpless. Just as suddenly the GPS started and we arrived at Helena's in the suburb of Krailling, about 15 Ks from Munich, at 7.00pm a bit frazzled. Helena was a couch surfer with us in Brisbane along with Veronica, who is from near Rosenheim, and it was great to see them both. This is our first ever coach surfing experience after hosting so many. Helena's mum, Christina, gave us a great dinner of fresh asparagus, ham & potato followed by cake from Helana's 21st on Saturday. Washed down with some good beer it was an excellent end to a bit of a stressful day.
